Midwest Area Safety Manager



As the Area safety leader, establishes and promotes the maintenance of a safe, incident free and healthy work environment through the implementation of Brand EHS procedures and other initiatives as deemed appropriate. Will perform the following duties personally or through Division/Branch Safety Managers:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Program Implementation

Working in conjunction with Area and Division management and EHS team, develops and implements policies and procedures to be followed by Brand employees in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations and Region and Corporate rules, policies and procedures.

Safety Communication and Training

Develops and ensures implementation of strategies to deliver EHS training and information throughout the Area. Ensures the dissemination of training developed by Region and/or Corporate EHS. Ensures training conforms to company and customer expectations.

Safety Inspections and Audits

Develops and ensures implementation of routine project inspection strategies to satisfy Area, Region and Corporate expectations. Periodically inspects facilities and job sites to detect existing or potential environmental, health, or safety hazards, ensures conformance with company standards and recommends corrective or preventative measures where necessary. Participates as an auditor in the company’s Gold Link EHS audit program.

Incident Reporting, Investigation, and Documentation

Ensures that all incidents are appropriately investigated, reported and documented. May personally lead the investigation of accidents and injuries to determine root causes and appropriate corrective actions. May represent company at mediation, trials, customer meetings and OSHA proceedings. Analyzes incident trends and implements appropriate preventive or corrective actions. Develops and implements strategies to ensure conformance with Region and Corporate reporting and recordkeeping requirements.

Injured Worker Management

Develops and ensures implementation of effective strategies to ensures effective injured worker management, seeing that the employee receives appropriate care while supporting the company’s incident minimization strategies throughout the area. Works with the Region Director of Safety (RSD) to administer the workers' compensation program, including working with the insurance carrier to cut down on lost employee time, identify and eliminate suspicious or fraudulent claims and assist in minimizing cost of claims. Proactively investigates potential liability claims by documenting incident details, identifying witnesses and securing evidence.

Professional Development

Represents the organization in community or professional organizations and programs.


Establishes and ensures implementation of effective document control. Maintains EHS files and records. Prepares regular reports.


The Area Safety Manager serves as the functional supervisor to Division/Branch Safety Managers within his/her jurisdiction.


Education and/or Experience

Bachelor degree or its equivalent and 5 to 7 years of construction safety management experience for a large, geographically disperse organization or at least an additional 5 years experience in lieu of the degree.
